Becky, the Puppy, Becomes Part of the Family

WP_20150224_001

Anna has wanted a puppy for as long as I can remember. I have also come to crave the love and attention of an adorable puppy. It took some convincing but Brittany finally agreed, ok it really wasn't all that hard.

Getting The Puppy

Yesterday, we finally went to The Tangipahoa Parish Animal Shelter to adopt a dog. As we really wanted a puppy that we can raise with Anna, they only had three dogs that met our criteria. We eventually settled on Becky, a Chesapeake Bay/Labrador Retriever mix. She was the quietest of the three there but just seemed perfect for our family. At first, they said we had to wait 2 days but they called while we were shopping for supplies and said we could come get us.

After some research, I learned about the particular breeds that Becky is. According to Dog Breed Info Center: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, these dogs are great for children, love water, but can be territorial if not trained properly. In addition, according to Dog Breed Info Center: Labrador Retriever, these dogs are also great for families. They are intelligent and have a gentle nature. They make great service dogs. Also, Like the Chesapeake Bay, they love the water. However, they can become destructive if not trained properly.

Becky is a perfect dog for a child Anna's age.

Anna's New Best Buddy

Anna was so excited to get her new best buddy, her words. Becky is only 2 months old and still a
bit young. However, she is not as active as most puppies. I think she just has to get used to us. It
seems she is a bit more active at night.

Last night, she kind of tore up the bathroom. We was going to let her sleep in either my or Anna's room but she seemed to want to stay in bathroom. I need new toilet paper and the room needs some general cleaning but that is alright.

With some positive training, I think she will be a wonderful addition to our family.

To Sum It Up

Becky is now part of our family. I think that I may have some difficulty giving her up when Brittany, Anna, and her move out on their own. However, I would have a difficult time either way.  Anna loves her new puppy and Becky seems to care about her already. I am just waiting to hear her bark. She has not barked once since we brought her home.
